NASCAR 2011: The Game - Review

The experience of a freshly baked steak and burning rubber can be nothing short of breathtaking. And all that can now be experienced from the comfort your own home with NASCAR 2011 the game. But is this Eutechnyx developed game worth playing?

Modes

The first thing players will notice is the menu. This is honestly one of the best menus ever made. The garage in the background and track access cards while loading put me right into the NASCAR experience. An experience gained from many modes including career, quick race and online play. Now normally I'd say that career mode is where the mileage is at but this time I just can't.

Career mode let's you play as yourself or one of the 43 famous NASCAR sprint series drivers. As you race you gain experience, which can be put in new sponsorships or unlocks additional content, usually an invitational event or a color scheme. The sponsorship is a nice touch. After a couple of decent finishes you'll gain interest from famous sponsors. Put their logo on the car will unlock additional bonuses for predetermined criteria, like leading a race for 10 laps. And while the sponsorship is a great idea it only goes so far because career mode only supports one season, all hard earned respect goes lost after the 36st race, not great.

Racing

Luckily the cream of the crop is determined on track and in that respect NASCAR 2011 the game does very well. Racing with 43 other cars fighting for every inch of the racetrack is an experience unlike any.

During the race the game does a stellar job keeping you posted of the world around you. At the bottom of the screen the HUD gives a clear overview of the surrounding cars. And the tire and fuel indicators are essential for making it to the end of the race. Trust me I've had races where the tires would suddenly fall off a cliff, leading to the inevitable puncture.

This is both a good and a bad thing, because while it adds a nice strategic element to it, the execution lacks subtle cues. Tires tend to drop off quite harshly and any car damage is always brutal. I've experienced a race where the car would pull to the left leaving me counter steering through the entire thing - really exhausting!

Also tactical is the positioning of the front end. These cars drive quite heavily so the entry to a corner makes all the difference between ending in a giant swabble or reaching the finish line scot-free.

When you do make errors or decide go the long route, there's always the possibility to pit. In the pits a small screen pops up giving options for refueling, or changing tires. The only downside to this is that it yanks the player straight out of the immersion and switches to a fly cam until the car returns to the track.

The same can be said about cautions. These flags, which indicate a safety car situation, add a big lottery to any race. In the game they don't come out too often (luckily?) but they do get the job done, although it would've been nice to stay in-car throughout the whole thing.

Reasons they don't come out too often probably have something to do with the AI. They tend to drive very cleanly and don't get tangled in each other's tracks too often. When they approach an obstacle (probably you) they do a solid job in trying to avoid it, despite failing when in larger packs. Don't expect anything like the real thing though. The two-car bullet phenomenon, where one is the pusher, is definitely something you won't see in the game. The same can be said about strategic slipstreaming in packs or slingshots. But for the largest part the AI is satisfying.

Ultimately these elements do compliment the tactical sport that is NASCAR, and overall they've been implemented very nicely and do deliver close racing as is notorious for the sport, well done Eutechnyx!

Driving

So how do these cars drive? To find out I connected a G27 to the PS3 version of the game, and grinded my teeth in. To be honest I was a little anxious at first. Seeing a big oval banking coming up and knowing that the wheel is connected to 3500lbs of aluminum doesn't fair well with me. And after many laps of bravery and content, I can say that it definitely does what it says on the tin.

These V8 muscles are heavy and it feels that way. Changing direction is tough, punishing any rookie entry to the corner. Contrary to what you may think the smaller ovals are what really get to you.

Also important for any tight oval is skillful braking. The balance between high pedal pressure and soft is as big as light and day. Aggressive drivers will definitely find the car dancing under the pressure, leaving you pray to the upcoming attackers.

As I mentioned before damage adds to the excitement of racing. Any contact with the wall and you might find the car pulling to either side. Harder contact will hurt the transmission. The damage is both visually and mechanically pleasing, despite never willing to break the car completely. Even the hardest of impacts will not result in an automatic forfeit of the race, the only dent in the system.

To prevent damages you might want to tweak the car setup a little. Players can choose between a standard setup (auto tuned for the particular race) or become engineers themselves. Aspiring engineers can start out easy using a few sliders to change the downforce, tires and gearbox among other things. I think that most will really appreciate this simplified method of making setups. Go all out though and the game throws any possible tweak into the mix. I can't confirm this but I can imagine it being on par with real world NASCAR! And the best part is that all these efforts do pay off during the race, both in car-wear and stability.

I can't deny that I'm a fan of Eutechnyx when it comes to gameplay and again they don't disappoint. With every aids off it's maybe a bit shy of being a complete sim, but it's challenging and the setup work is perfect. Likewise easy mode does a great job in offering a pick up and play experience to anyone new to the sport.

Online

With the handling aced most will probably picture fantastic online battles, fighting till dusk and pushing the tires to their absolute limit, well don't. Online racing often falls short of the picture we have in our heads, because close racing can only be done with mutual respect. Unfortunately, and I can't blame the devs for this, the oval circuit lends itself perfectly for bump races and ghost riders. I can say that out of all the races I've been on, I finished not a single one with a feeling of satisfaction and content.

On the bright side I haven't experienced much failures in the online system myself, although I've heard complaints from other users. So when you do know a couple of fair buds that are up for a race, go for it! But for most racers, unfortunately, lack of skill/intention worldwide will mark this mode useless.

Presentation

NASCAR the game 2011 is out for the Wii (May 24th), PS3 and the xbox360. The last two versions are identical to each other and is the version that we used for this review.

The current gen is running on its final legs and it shows. The graphics while pushing 43 cars fall short of the best we've seen in the genre. The trackside objects look very flat and do a poor job in conveying the belief that you're part of a bigger world. On the flip side the cars look great and it can be really entertaining at times to read a cars backend infomercial.

Also surprisingly good are the pre-race shows. These include hawks flying into the air and fireworks as the cars pass the pit straight, things you'd expect in real NASCAR racing. But again unfortunately the in-car experience doesn't live up to the immersion.

This isn't particularly helped by the sound. No matter the view you're in the engine always sounds the same. It lacks a rough edge and is too clean overall. Less clean is the sound of the spotter. This director up in the sky helps the driver pick the best lines and keeps him up to date of the swabbles ahead. In the game however he feels the need to repeat, confuse and annoy, within spectacular short timeframes. He especially feels the need to repeat "all clear" when driving on an island for numerous laps. I do feel that further tweaking and a few extra lines would greatly help the spotter implementation.

Conclusions

NASCAR 2011 the game is the first of the series and is shows. On top of that the graphics suffer from having to run 43 cars at all times. Still the racing itself is great and does offer a lot of joy, even when you're not familiar with the sport. The proper implementation of damage, tire wear and fuel compliments this feature.

The biggest problem, in my eyes, is the fact that you may find it unrewarding to race. Online is a hit or miss and the career mode isn't up to speed just yet. And because of that your mileage may vary to the largest extend, making this title a recommend only to the biggest of NASCAR fans or the purest of racers.

Online Gaming May Become Legalized in United States

In the United States, John Pappas is moving the mountains. He is pushing the million members of Poker Players Alliance to lobby for the legislation to make online gambling legalized in the US. The Executive Director of the Poker Players Alliance through his fellow members is supporting the HR2267 the legislation made by Congressman Barney Frank to control and levy Internet gaming. The committee vote on the legislation can happen as early as February 2010. Papas did not hide his ambitions when he said in no unclear terms that this legislation will be crucial for the Poker Players Alliance and the entire poker community. He asked members to rise up to the occasion and make their voices heard.

In the past also the initiatives of the PPA to support online gaming has been influential to support HR2267 and this time also it is no different. Papas asked players of the alliance and the poker community to reach out to Congressmen and express their support for the bill. According to Pappas, this is first time that there will be a vote on legalizing online gaming in the United States. He said that bipartisan support is required to make this bill a success and urged members to alert their Congressmen on the upcoming vote. On the other end Congressmen Barney Frank has seen more success on the bill in the first two weeks of January. The good news is that two politicians, New York Democrat Eliot Engel and Charlie Melancon, a Democrat from Los Angeles supported the "The Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2009". This has increased the number of Congressmen endorsing the proposal to 65. More needs to be done and John Papas is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that online poker and gaming gets legalized in the country.

The bill was up for hearing in early December but without any mark-up as Congressmen debated the step. Papas said that the next big step would be the mark-up and his group has targeted the Congressmen who can support the legislation and is lobbying with them for a favorable outcome. If a mark-up does take place there could be a debate on HR2267 followed by a House vote which would ultimately push the bill favorably. Papas notes that the biggest challenge at this moment is the fear that partisan politics does not act against the bill. If that happens, it will be a setback for online gaming in the country. Barney Frank has scored another point when he and other Congressmen successfully delayed the implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) till June 1st 2010. This will give enough time for those in favor of HR2267 to move ahead and maneuver in favor of the bill.

The UIGEA was passed in a late night session just before the election recess in 2006 as a 'must pass' security bill. Hopefully with the delay in implementation of the Act will give time to online gambling industry to propose their point favorably in front of the Government.

PC Game Review - Victoria II

Victoria II is a new part of Paradox Interactive's fabulous set of grand strategy games, each covering a different period of history and letting you try to do basically whatever you want. This title covers the time period between about 1835 and 1935, spanning the American Civil War, the Great War, and the period when the sun never set on the United Kingdom. You control any country on the globe and try to reshape history to your liking, maybe even so that none of those events I just mentioned ever happen (but good luck trying to take down the UK). Industrialize your nation, colonize what's still left, and contend with an increasingly militant population as the game goes on. There is no better game out there for historical simulation like this, but that doesn't mean you won't have some micromanagement issues to contend with.

Many Paradox titles have issues right when released, and though this game is stable and completely playable on release this time, it's already become clear what the major issue is: Revolutions and rebellions. Unless your government is the most progressive and worker-friendly in the entire world, (and even sometimes if it is) you will face constant rebellions. They're not usually difficult to deal with -- rebel troops aren't very efficient and your military can dispose of them without issue. But the tedium of clearing out troops stationed in every province of your possibly far-flung empire, sometimes once a year or more in-game, is incredibly frustrating. It slows the game's pace to a crawl as you slowly hustle your troops around and your plans are disrupted over and over. This will be fixed in an upcoming patch, and there are fan fixes available already, but those who don't frequent Paradox's forums may be caught in the frustration.

This game should, however, be used in economics classes. Playing with your economy and trying to get industrialization started, you learn so much about how everything affects everything else within the system. Why won't the capitalists build any railroads? Are you taxing them too much? Are tariffs too high? Is there enough value to adding a railroad in that province? All of these things have to be taken into consideration, and you learn a lot.

Victoria II is definitely a recommended buy. It's not always easy, but it has strong educational capabilities, and there's so much fun in taking your Communist Argentinian government on a conquering spree through South America. It has some early-release flaws that will be ironed out soon, but the game is already perfectly playable and fun. Now I'm back at it to try and unify Italy.

Playing Online Games for Profit

People of all ages enjoy playing online games because they like the idea of engaging in new virtual environments with other people around the country or around the world. Players that know each other can go on a getaway together and take their digital personas through the game.

Of course playing all day keeps these players away from work which may lead to the conclusion that gamers never gain anything productive out of gaming. However there are a number of players that also play some online games for the sake of profit.

It goes a lot deeper than simply playing casual games like SpongeBob SquarePants for the Wii. Playing certain online games can be serious business if you know the ins and outs of gaming in general. Here are some ways that you can get some profit out of your enjoyment.

Beta Testing

Video game developers continue to come up with new ideas on how people can interact and play with others. However, it is difficult to tell if gamers will really enjoy given the so many popular games that are already out. It is also hard to make a solid game that plays without bugs or does not have any unfair or cheap elements.

In order to come up with a more attractive package, developers release betas of their upcoming titles for others to try out. Basically, developers require these players not only to enjoy but to give feedback regarding any bugs or gameplay issues so they can take note and improve the game.

Gaming companies that are very serious in making a quality game may go as far as paying these testers making it one of the popular ways of getting profit for gaming.

Item Selling

Getting into beta testing is not easy since there will be so many interested beta testers and most developers only accept a handful. Fortunately, you can still profit from playing existing games that involve character creation and items.

Many of these games are MMORPGs where players can embark on a getaway adventure where players fight enemies and collect items along the way. Some of these items are very valuable and can only be obtained by very slim chances.

These items are often very powerful and give players a significant advantage in the game. Because of these rare properties, these items are in high demand and some people would go as far as paying for them. This is where item selling can be profitable. Just be sure to read the rules of the game because some games discourage selling virtual items for real money especially if it involves in-game currency.

Strategy Guide Making

While this is not a direct way to playing online games for profit, certain gamers just have fun by playing games online so they can come up with excellent strategies to help other players. This may not be a reliable method since there are many guides that are available for free.

But if you believe that you are an expert player of a very popular online game that has lots of users, you may be able to sell a few copies of a strategy guide authored by you if you commit some time to make one. World of Warcraft is a perfect example of a game that has so many commercial strategy guides online.

Phenomenal Action Games in China

China has become home to non conventional games like the X-Games since the advent of the Olympics. While the traditional Chinese martial arts is still popular, the induction of the adrenaline inducing X-Games has left its mark. The country now hosts Action Games Sports Tours on a regular basis which sees huge participation. The popularity can clearly be witnessed by the fact that the country is now home to the world's biggest skating park. The interesting fact of the situation is that these adventure sports evolved in the country after the sponsors found that there was a huge market to sell their products in.

Learning Chinese martial arts may not be the only option for sport-lovers visiting China. Being the host of the Olympic Games, the country has made way for non-traditional sports to make sure that visitors from around the globe feel completely at home when on the China tour. Now the world's largest skate park has been built in Shanghai. Spanning an area of 44,936 sq. ft the SMP Skate Parkhouses several skating rinks inside it. There is everything here that a skater can want. There are flat banks, quarter pipes, hips, hand rails, wall rides and everything else that one would be looking for. This skate park has become a part of the Mandarin culture and the pro and neo skaters can be found honing their skills here.

There is an annual competition called the "The Showdown" that is held there. A 12,300 square foot viewing deck and plaza that allows an enormous crowd to gather and watch the ongoing fun.

The initiation of the X games and their rising popularity in China, surprisingly has been a result of a number of businessmen seeking new business opportunities in sports. In 2006, a group of five Chinese businessmen visited NBC Sports in their quest for new business opportunities in the light of the upcoming Beijing Olympics. They saw a presentation from Dew Action Sports Tour and decided to introduce and promote action sports in China. As a result in August 2007 Xingyi cut a deal with NBC to bring Action Sports Tour to Beijing. This not only popularized the games that did not receive recognition in China earlier but also offered the companies offering sports accessories an opportunity to promote their products and consequently the Action Games in China.

X-Games, Action Sports Tour and Action Sports Association held events in the Mandarin territory in 2008 and there has been no turning back ever since. An interesting fact to note is that; in the U.S. the "sport" came first and the industry got built around them whereas in China it has been the exact opposite. It was only after the industry established itself that the games grew around it. This has all gone so well that the world's largest skating park is now a rage in the country.

PS3 Game Review: Fallout: New Vegas

America is a nuclear wasteland in chaos. Now go out there and survive. What better premise could there be for a sandbox shooter-RPG game like this second entry in the revived Fallout series? I would find a virtual hiking game exciting if it operated off of that premise. Not that you won't do plenty of hiking early on, but New Vegas does an incredible job of balancing first-person shooter and RPG genres with a survivalist sandbox frame of mind, providing very compelling gameplay and storyline that deserves multiple playthroughs.

New Vegas adds to the successful formula by taking the engine and gameplay of Fallout 3 and giving them a sense of place (in this case, a mixture of Wild West and 50s casino aesthetics) that they only rarely accomplished last time. Fallout 3's Washington D.C. setting may have shocked a few people with its images of a demolished National Mall, but for the other 90% of gameplay, the sense of setting really never took off. So Fallout 3 developer Bethesda may have realized they were a little too focused on, well, the immediate area around Bethesda, so they shipped allowed the sequel to be developed by Obsidian, who have a claim on the rest of the Fallout series' past. The new setting around the former Las Vegas area is an inspired choice, and the narrative surrounding an important regional battle for Hoover Dam propels the narrative better than Fallout 3's setting did.

The setting is so important, in fact, that the gameplay is hardly changed at all from Fallout 3, which has led to accusations that this new title is more like a large $60 DLC package than a new game. This isn't necessarily a bad thing-- RPGs generally don't improve their gameplay for each iteration, because gameplay isn't really the point of a lot of RPGs. They are more about storyline and character interactions than most video game genres.

New Vegas concerns a major upcoming border clash between the New California Republic and Caesar's Legion, two armies of nebulous morals in conflict over the resources of New Vegas and Hoover Dam. The player character is a courier who has been miraculously revived after receiving a bullet in the head from a New Vegas casino owner trying to get at your character's mysteriously significant delivery, a platinum poker chip. Your character is driven by the desire for revenge to reach New Vegas, and events he encounters along the way may lead him to either align with one of the armies looming over New Vegas or attempt to forge his own destiny.

Yes, the gameplay is more or less the same as Fallout 3, however there is one major gameplay addition that's very enjoyable, but might be looked over because the game actually recommends that you don't use it. The new Hardcore Mode provides some realistic survivalist additions like requiring your character to eat, drink, and sleep, and making it so they cannot immediately heal all injuries on the fly. The game warns you not to adopt such a challenging feature, but the changes do not actually make the game significantly more difficult, and in fact they add to the fun feeling of surviving a postapocalyptic society. If Obsidian had simply forced the player to adopt these changes, this new gameplay element would seriously improve the game for everyone, but most gamers will likely not choose to adopt features that the game itself warns them will be more difficult than they actually are.

So it really is a fantastic game, but for a modern console game it is incredibly riddled with bugs, to a ridiculous degree. I did evaluate the game on the PS3, which Bethesda has historically not given two craps about while porting from Xbox 360 and PC versions of their titles, but that can't explain all of the constant issues. A player may see in any given few hours of gameplay a scorpion fall out of the air, a giant gecko running in place forever, quests with an NPC that never quite figures out what it's supposed to do to keep gameplay going, and a nearly controller-tossing number of random freezes. A downloadable patch is of course "in the works," but given Bethesda's track record, it may take months for these major issues to be solved, if they are ever solved at all. It's not exactly game-breaking, but expect to reset your console about fifty times before you're finished with the basic storyline.

Fallout: New Vegas is still a spectacular game, and the new western setting fits the series perfectly and adds a lot to the experience. Be sure you turn on Hardcore Mode unless you really find you can't remember to eat and drink at times, and you'll find this title really is even more entertaining than Fallout 3. And I'll get right back to enjoying this game again right now, even after the 30+ hours I spent playing it for this review.

Review of Flash Game: Wonderputt

Most miniature golf players are submitted to the elements of the great outdoors, such as heat, wind, rain, cold and insects. For those who are not a fan of nature, this flash game has found a way to overcome these unpleasant conditions while giving each player an optimal golfing experience. Enjoy this not so simple game of miniature golf, without ever leaving the computer. Putt through the snow, hills, lakes, submarines, and much more. Just don't let the ball sink into the water or fall off the edge or a turn will be wasted and points will be lost.

The rules of the game are that of basic miniature golf. The controls are simple. Just move the mouse closer or farther away from the ball and then click. The ball will go the direction that the arrow is pointing. The courses are not as simple as the controls. The different courses are definitely the best part of the game. Not only is there a wide variety of different courses, but the player is able to watch the ball travel from one course to another and watch the upcoming course be built. Cows, space ships, and submarine disassembly are part of the building process. The animation and courses are fun. They create a very out of this world feel, which adds excitement to the game as well as providing a break in between holes for the user to rest a little. The game gets progressively harder. In the beginning, the player can rely on luck. In the later courses, it is almost pure strategy and skill. Points are something to consider while building a strategy. The more hits it takes you to putt the ball the lower your score.

One negative thing about the game is how long it takes the ball to settle after it is hit. On some courses it is realistic and doesn't roll around too long. On other courses, where almost no part of the green is even, the ball rolls back and forth across the grass for what seems like forever. This forces the player to wait a long time between hits which ends up feeling very frustrating. The music matches the sense of wonder that the courses create, but it starts feeling very monotonous after a while.

Hints and Tips:

The key to getting a hole in one is power and angle. The sooner these two things are mastered, the higher your overall score will be.

Remember that the least amount of putts equals the highest score.

Review of the Upcoming Resident Evil 5

The newest episode of the survival horror series Resident Evil 5, has now been scheduled for release in March 2009, after being pushed back by Capcom from its original release date in October 2008. After the major success of resident evil 4 in 2005, there is much higher expectations this time around for the horror genre game, although information on the game is very shady at the moment (not much being said I see, great to see that they want to keep there users in suspense!) it evolves around the main characters Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar as well as a few other team members.

The game itself is set to start in a shady alleyway a bit like the beginning of resident evil and then make its way to Africa, there will be some new aspects to the game such as a predicted split screen mode in which you can play, besides this it is said that the game will not only be set in the dark. The franchise is now looking to also bring the game to lightness, not to mention the different types of weather conditions. The game somewhat has a starching resemblance to Black Hawk Down.

The outbreak is set to be in full swing by the time Chris Redfield and his fellow team get into the action. The zombies will be a lot wiser and will be able to use weapons, a bit like in RE4. Chris will basically be looking to discover the origins of the progenitor virus seen in resident evil code veronica.

The combat will be more or less similar to what we have seen in older versions of the game with shooting, stabbing and fighting.

We all know that this will be a major hit for Capcom, since the rejuvenation that RE4 brought to the dying series. Resident Evil 5 looks to have the same concept as its predecessor, but with that extra bit of humph. It will be interesting to see Resident Evil being based in another country and we all know how big Africa is and the developers can take major advantage of that.

Already looking likely to take the best game of the year award for 2009. I would just like to warn you that RE5 will be telling one great heck of a story and with the combined processing power of the PS3 and Xbox 360 we look to in for a zombified treat!

Compared to all other horror games such as dino crisis or silent hill, this beats them hands down.

Review of Flash Game: Steamlands

So what can one do with a steam tank, lego like blocks, guns, and cannons in a war wrecked Europe? Build steam tanks and fight pirates of course. Become a mercenary tank commander and defend villages, the royal family, and scavenge for parts for your steam tank in the New Britannia.

One of the nice things about the game is that the tank is completely customizable. You can arrange your blocks around the steam room however you wish. The blocks come in different sizes and are made of different materials. The blocks should be strategically arranged to protect the driver, cargo, and passengers. The blocks can even be rearranged mid battle with little difficulty. This comes in handy when you fail to miss a weak spot. In addition, a big part of the game is placing the guns and cannons on the steam tank. Some of them need steam power to work; so there are limitations on where they can be placed. Some types of guns are also more effective if placed in specific locations and not randomly scattered around. Guns and blocks can be picked up as the tank goes through the level. Some are just lying around, while others fall from destroyed enemy tanks. There are also opportunities to repair the tank between battles. If you get stuck on a particular level, the game allows you to skip it and go back to it later.

There are a few downsides to the game. One of them is the controls. The game does a good job describing the controls and giving the player hints. Moving the tank forward and reversing isn't so bad once you get the hang of it. The tricky part is firing the guns. The controls are less than desirable and it is difficult to get all the guns to fire in unison. Also, while the guns are firing, the driver cannot fix the tank or throw coal.

Hints and Tips:

Rearrange the steam tank. If you notice a weak spot, add a few more blocks. Make sure the guns are placed where they can effectively damage the enemy tank.

Talk to the shop keeper. Some of the things he/she tells you is worthless town gossip, but some of it helps you to beat the upcoming level. It is definitely worth the money.

Look for the enemy's weak spots and then rearrange your guns to hit these spots if necessary. Taking out the enemies' guns first can be useful strategy.

Some How-To Tips For A Game At Citi Field

So the cross-town rival Yankees have their majestic new stadium and a 2009 championship. The division rivals Phillies have a 2008 championship and plenty of parking. So what. The Mets have an unendingly loyal fan base, cooler hats, and the Ebbets-influenced outstanding new ballpark in Flushing. Citi Field is a vast improvement over the former home of the Mets, Shea Stadium, in nearly every way. Even with the Mets underperforming over the last couple of seasons, the Mets faithful still fill the place. Want to join them? Here are some things you need to know.

The Mets don't sell out every game, but the lower-priced seats do go quickly, so if you want to buy directly from the Mets you should sign up for the ticket alert newsletter on their website, which will keep you posted on upcoming deals and special nights. You'll need an account on MLB.com.

Like most teams, the Mets charge a corporate-sized price for their best seats, but the upper level seats are relatively affordable by comparison. The Mets have a very complicated ticket pricing system, but by following some rules of thumb you can save money on tickets. Games are cheaper during the week, in April and September, and against lesser opponents like the Pirates. If you just want to get into the place, look for a Tuesday Pittsburgh game in April. And dress warm!

Most of the seats at Citi are very good; there are plenty of different seating sections with advantages and disadvantages. For example, you can sit underneath the right field seats inside the Modell's Clubhouse-these are very cool and inexpensive field level seats, but you won't be able to see any of the scoreboards from here. Similarly, the Pepsi Porch hangs over the lower level right field seats a la Tiger Stadium and has its own patio, but bring a hat and sunscreen!

If you're going to sit in the Promenade (500) level, you need to be aware of the awful obstructed views. For some reason, glass landings were placed in between sections on this level; certain seats are blocked so poorly as to be unacceptable. To avoid this, try to stay out of the first 3-4 rows of the Promenade level seats, or spend a few extra dollars and go for Promenade Box seats in the 400 level in front of the landings. If you do get one of these seats, call a Mets usher over and asked to be moved. I have read that the Mets are very good about doing so.

Once you have your seats picked out and bought, you'll need to get there. The most popular method of transportation to get to Citi Field is the MTA 7 train made infamous by nutcase Braves reliever John Rocker. The 7 runs from Manhattan to the Mets-Willets Point station right at Citi Field. It's nowhere near as bad as Rocker claimed, but Queens isn't much to look at unless you like graffiti. When leaving after the game, walk around to the opposite side of the platform and get on a train with a red diamond on the side-these are the Mets Express trains that cut the travel time to Manhattan in half with far fewer stops.

If you do decide to take your car, there are spaces at or around Citi Field; not enough to handle a sellout if everyone drove but ample enough that you should find a space if you're early enough. Near the 7 train platform is the Southfield commuter lot; if you get here well before game time, you may be able to grab this at the commuter rate rather than the game day rate. You'll need to kill some time, but heck, it's New York, you should be able to find something.

When you're inside Citi Field you'll want to sample some of the multitudes of locally based food items; Citi Field has some of the best ballpark food in the majors. There is the ever-popular Shackburger at the Shake Shack-go early if you want to avoid long lines for this. Then there is the Blue Smoke Barbecue for pulled pork sandwiches, El Verano Taqueria for tacos, Box Frites for amazing fries, Cascarino's New York-style pizza, and much more. In the right field corner is Mama's of Corona, making some of the best subs you've ever had at a ballpark-with a blue and orange sprinkles cannoli for dessert.

Like Citizens Bank Park, Citi Field has a McFadden's attached to it as well, with Irish pub food and cheaper drinks. Check McFadden's site before you buy tickets, by the way. You may find some incredible deals.

Citi Field offers a great new experience seeing a ballgame. It's beautiful to look at and offers a total New York ballpark atmosphere, not to mention lots of great ballpark eats. Take advantage of all this terrific new venue has to offer with these tips!

Suitable Games for the Family

With the fast approaching school vacation and holiday season, everyone seems busy planning everything like parties, picnics, get-together and other activities. It is also a fact that parents seldom have time to have some bonding moments with their children due to the hectic and frantic schedules they have at work.

You should bear in mind that aside from quality education, nutrition, love, care and attention, you need to connect with them to enhance parent-children relationship. What do you think are better ways to bond with your children? Are there cost-efficient options which you can used during the upcoming holiday season?

Well, there are myriad ways to connect and to boost your relationship with your kids. Even though some children are too young to play some of these board games, they can understand the rules and can play with them.

Outdoor games - It is one of the other preferred activities where members of the family can participate. Some families preferred outdoor games because they will not only bond with their children, but they can exercise and exert effort to become active and physically fit. These are usually played during picnics and other outdoor activities. Games belong to this category include badminton, Frisbee, volleyball, croquet, water games and many more. In these games, players can flex their muscles by jumping, catching, running and swinging.

Card Games - It is a relaxed form of game where members of the family can also participate such as Blackjack, Bridge, Gin Runny and Crazy Eight.

Online games - It is also preferred by children and adults because even though players are far from each other, they can chat and communicate with them. When choosing online games for your children, be sure to select one which is educational and not violent.

Majority of us failed to realize that these games are not only for fun and not only meant for children. These games are already part of our lives because they already existed before we are born and they become part of our childhood. Apart from boosting relationship with other members of the family, we can have fun, we can enjoy, we can reroute our stress and we can blow away the anger we have inside us.

The Games of Hockey

It's important to note when discussing hockey trivia that hockey is actually the name for a whole group of sports. The game that most of us think of is properly called ice hockey, and is played on skates on ice, with five men to a side with a goalie. However, there are other versions of the game which sometimes appear on an obscure hockey quiz out of the other forms, field hockey has probably gained the most recognition as a professional sport in its own right.

Although indoor arenas are common now, for many years the most common place to see people playing hockey was outside on a skating rink made in the winter time. That is probably why hockey is most popular in countries where it is particularly cold. For example, game is extremely popular in Canada, Sweden, Finland, Russia, and the Czech Republic. It is also very popular in the Northern parts of the US that get more severe winters. The professional level of the sport has caught on in many southern states now, but at the amateur level it has not gained the importance of a sport like football. In Canada, on the other hand, most minor athletics programs put a much higher emphasis on hockey than on football.

The professional hockey league in North America is revealed by a hockey quiz to be known as the NHL, or the National Hockey League. The league often refers to the six teams which were the primary teams for the first several decades of the league, although only two were around in the first year of league play. The "original six" as they are often referred to, are all still active teams in the NHL. Those teams were the Boston Bruins, the Detroit Red Wings, the New York Rangers, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadians.

Hockey has also been an Olympic sport since 1920, although it was interestingly enough first played at the summer Olympics rather than the winter. Hockey is often one of the flagship tournaments now played at the Olympic level, although its popularity in a given year often depends on the country it is being played in. Due to its being played in Canada this year, there has been a very high level of anticipation for the upcoming Olympic Hockey tournament in 2010 in Vancouver. Since 1998, NHL players have been allowed to play as members of their home country's Olympic teams.

Spider-Man Edge of Time Video Game Preview

Spider-Man: Edge of Time follows the present-day Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 in their efforts to prevent a catastrophic event from taking place, the death of the Amazing Spider-Man. The story starts out in the future as Miguel O'Hara (Spider-Man 2099) works at Alchemax. Walker Sloan, a rival scientist who works in the temporal physics lab, has decided to go back in time and remake Alchemax in his own image, decades before it was originally founded. He eliminates Stark Enterprises, Fujikawa and all other competitors. This creates a new, alternate timeline. In Miguel's attempt to stop Sloan, he becomes caught between the two timelines and the world changes around him. He's spit back out into the revised future as the only one outside of Walker Sloan with the knowledge that the timeline has been altered.

>
>

The game is written by Peter David. Walker Sloan is the first character he's created for the 2099 timeline in 15 years. According to Activision, there will be cameos of characters from both time lines, as well as other new characters created specifically for the game. Josh Keaton voices the Amazing Spider-Man and Christopher Daniel Barnes voices Spider-Man 2099 in Edge of Time.

The game starts in the "Amazing" timeline. O'Hara must contact Peter Parker, who us quite content and doesn't believe this isn't the life he should be living. The two form an adversarial relationship at the start when Miguel contacts Peter across time to tell him that everything he knows is wrong. According to Activision, as they work through the challenges of the game together, they eventually build a strong friendship.

Picture-in-picture is used to show the two Spider-Men communicating with each other. Instead of a classic level set up, the PiP is used to switch between the two time lines. Equal time is given to both Spider-Men in their time lines. Spider-Man 2099 will have to react to changes in environment. Pathways will open and enemies will appear and disappear as Amazing Spider-Man acts in his timeline.

The two Spider-Men share the same core combat system, with slight differentiation. Amazing Spider-Man is more acrobatic, with ranged web attacks. He has a new ability called, Hyper-Sense, which is a half offensive and half defensive move. It taps into Spider-Man's spider sense to auto-dodge and avoid obstacles. During the course of game play you can upgrade your Hyper-Sense and use it for longer periods of time.

Spider-Man 2099 has a slightly different combat style. Because he's faster and has talons, he engages in melee combat and uses swipe attacks. His signature move is called, "Accelerated Decoy". He has accelerated vision, which allows him to see the environment faster. You can use it to shoot decoy versions of yourself across the screen to either distract enemies or as a offensive move. The two characters have a shared move called, "Time Paradox" and it can be used to freeze enemies in time.

In continuing the level we discover Spider-Man's foe will be Anti-venom, who is being controlled by one of Walker Sloan's chips. If Parker does not fight him, the building will explode and kill people for blocks around. Miguel's attempts to convince Peter to avoid the upcoming fight fall on deaf ears. As you fight in the "Amazing" timeline, it can have an immediate effect on Miguel's time. An explosion coursing through present-day Alchemax destroys atomic regulators in the building. Those explosions cause radiation to leak in 2099 timeline, slowly killing Miguel. Spider-Man must race against time to stop Miguel's death from occurring.

In Anti-Venom boss fight, Eddie Brock attempts to fight against the influence of the control chip embedded in his brain. Walker Sloan sends more power through the chip to set off his more bestial side. During the course of the fight, hits from Anti-Venom drain Parker of his powers and he has to dig deep into his arsenal to take his foe down.

According to Activision, you'll be able to beat it in one very long sitting if you want to. Check-points will save your progress. A mini-challenge system is built into the game. You're prompted to engage in these challenges during game play and can go back to retry the challenges at any time. Giant spheres and golden spiders hidden across the levels will allow you to unlock health and shield upgrades, You'll also be able to unlock bonus Spider-Man suits.

With Beenox as the studio behind Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time, we wanted to know the what differences fans could expect from this latest entry. Activision said the pacing would be different, as well as the types of enemies you'll encounter. People will be familiar enough with the controls that they can jump right in. They felt Beenox honed what they learned from Shattered Dimensions.

The game will also be released to the 3DS. It will essentially be the same game, with the Picture-In-Picture elements taking place across both screens and some touch screen functionality to compensate for the fewer buttons available on the 3DS.

Spider-Man: Edge of Time will be released to the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, 3DS and DS this fall.

The Dead Space Game

Dead Space - Ride The Spaceship To Hell

Let's face it. Electronic Arts isn't actually known for producing genre-significant games. In fact, EA is known for exactly the contrary: amateurish games which were on one occasion deliberated as surefire success. For Holiday, 2008, however, EA may very well have the premium release of a new-found and fresh title in its recent history since becoming an almost-monopoly.

I'm referring about Dead Space, an endurance horror game like no other.

Truly, there have been survival horror games before. Alone in the Dark, of course, devised the genre. Resident Evil and its many chapters cultured and perfected this niche. The Silent Hill chains took it for a spin and established the concept of psychological horror, which was sent to the advanced height by games like Fatal Frame.

So what makes Dead Space any special?

First and foremost, Dead Space doesn't take place in an old abandoned manor or a city ransacked by currently-made zombies. Dead Space happens in, where else, space.

Think of Alien. Think of Sigourney Weaver being hunted by the brood in a rocketship that has been deprived of {life|existence|living. Think of this automation completed to a tee.

Think of crazed, transformed, and absolute vile crew members replacing aliens. Think of pure, untainted vileness straight from the guts of hell. Think of a sole navy having to fend of these repulsive entities. Think of grotesque forces and even more grotesque circumstances.

It's the threatening hostility and the haunting dread that makes Dead Space the upcoming radical step in the survival horror kind. Definitely, we shouldn't forget about the enormous, controlling ammunitions, the abundant serving of brutality, and the variety of mutilated body parts.

Dead Space is said to be so brutal that it had to go through some mendings solely to acquire an allowable M ranking from the ESRB. Its planned box art, a visual of a mutilated body part hanging in space and a tribute to the mutilated finger that was utilized in the advertisements for the film Saw, has been faced with so much condemnation that an alternate box art is being made.

Upon the issuance of Dead Space, the survival horror variety will in no way be the same again. As the introductory statement in Star Trek goes, "to go where no man has gone before."

Well, Dead Space will go where no survival horror game has dared venture before. And we'll be there for one hell of a ride, plainly speaking that is.

3D: The Future Has Arrived

Your eyes do not deceive you - the Nintendo 3DS indeed has the capability to display 3D graphics, without the use of special 3D glasses. This is made possible by the presence of two outer cameras that allows the viewer to see the world in full 3D splendor. Switch it up and choose whether you want to view your games in 3D or in 2D via the Depth Slider switch located at the right side of the top screen. Turn it up to enjoy 3D that comes right at you or turn it down for a more traditional 2D gaming experience.

The Analog Pad, Finally

Hand-held video game console fans around the world are rejoicing as the analog pad finally makes its way to Nintendo's newest and best console yet, the 3DS pad. Also known as the Circle Pad, it is located just above the D-pad at the left side of the console. Moving around when exploring vast areas as well as piloting your favorite vehicles is made easier as you can now choose between the two pads. Use the D-pad for more precise up-down or left-right movements while the Circle Pad for a much smoother circular feel.

Still Seeing Double

Fans and critics alike lauded the Nintendo DS's double screen feature, and they're bringing it back on the 3DS. The widescreen at the top displays an astounding 800x240 pixel resolution, allotting 400 pixels for each eye to create the 3-dimensional effect while the bottom LCD touch screen employs 320x240. Both screens can display over 16 million colors, bringing you crisp, crystal clear graphics.

From 2DS to 3DS

Probably the most frequent question coming from gamers who have the Nintendo DS is "Will we get to play our 2DS games on the 3DS?" The answer is yes, but not all games, according to Nintendo. The downside is that the 2DS games won't be possible to view in 3D, as the screen is exclusive to games designed specifically for the 3DS. The upside is, for the games you can play from 2DS to 3DS, the look and feel will still be the same. Just like playing an old but innovated game.

StreetPass: Connect Like Never Before

Nintendo introduces a brand-new way to connect with fellow 3DS players with the StreetPass. Place your 3DS on Sleep Mode and be able to exchange game data with other 3DS owners you pass on the streets. Control what type of data you want to share with, from high scores to customized characters, all while your 3DS is in Sleep Mode.

The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games: Its Role in Infrastructure, Telecommunication, and Politics

For Russia the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games will play a huge role in its infrastructure, telecommunication, and politics. In a report released by the Federal Target Programme (FTP), as of June 2009 the organizers of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games have been designating its Olympic facilities in advance. According to the FTP, the Russian government is expected to allot $580 million for the construction of facilities for the Winter Olympic Games. The budget will be also used for the following:

Construction of digital broadcasting infrastructures, including radio and TV stations assigned to cover the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
Assembly of "info-communication centers" for HDTV satellite coverage of the games worldwide.
Modernization of the TETRA local mobile radio for the 100 target user groups who will cover the events via radio.
The extension of fiber-optic cables along the Anapa-Dzhubga-Sochi highway and other Krasnodar towns. The cables will enable live news feeds and video conferences from the games.

The Sochi City Light Metro is expected to take its construction between the Krasnaya Polyana and Adler roads. The Krasnaya Polyana is where the Olympic Park will be located. The Adler railroad meanwhile will be constructed to enable its regional telecommunications services during the Winter Olympic season. In December 2009, The Russian Railways ordered the designation of 38 Seimens Mobility trains in Sochi. The trains will serve as the official transportation of the athletes and other delegates. A 3.5 km runway extension is set to be constructed along the Sochi Airport. The runway will be situated along the Mzymta River fronting Sochi City's backup airports.

As of May 2009, Russian Railways already started the construction of the "Tunnel Complex No.1" within the Adler and Alpica railroads. The railway tunnel is expected to be finished in 2013. According to Vladimir Yakunin, head of Russian Railways, the Tunnel Complex No. 1 is where the mobility trains provided by Seimens will take its passage. Yakunin also stated that the construction of the tunnel is expected to cost 200 billion Rubbles (Russia's official currency).

In May 2010, the National Anti-Criminal and Anti-Terrorist Fund in Russia expressed their concerns regarding the tight security of Sochi City in the upcoming Winter Olympics. According to Oleg Nechiporkenko, chief analyst of the said agency, the city's capacity to host the 2013 Winter Olympic Games is impossible due to the car bombing incidents that continues to occur in some Krasnodar communities. Envoy to North Caucasus Alexander Khloponin stated the event's impact in the Sochi's tourism industry.

The Best Bachelorette Party Games

Planning a bachelorette party is one of the greatest thrills of the upcoming nuptials! It's the time when everybody gets a little crazy, lets off steam before the big day, and gives the bride something to remember for the rest of her life! Remember that saying, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?" Well, whatever happens at the bachelorette party stays at the party!

So you can get as crazy as you want with the games. Starting out with a drinking game is always a hit. But instead of simply letting all the ladies order their drinks, why not require them to make those drinks themselves? Get all the ingredients for the most popular drinks, like Hot Sex on the Beach, Pina Coladas and Mudslides, but don't give out the recipes! Watch what the ladies come up with, and taste all the varieties.

Ask everyone invited to the party to write a short, steamy story about what the bride and groom will do on their wedding night. Put them all together into a small photo album and read the stories out loud. Whoever makes the bride blush the brightest wins a door prize!

What good is a party without a cake? But make this one a very special cake, the kind you might not want your mother to see! Bake a cake in the shape of a man's private parts, decorate it with delightful colors, and let the bride take the first...well...bite.

If you're in a public place, play the "I dare you" game. Dare each member of the bachelorette party to do something wild and crazy. Make the shyest one there kiss a stranger, or make the woman who wore the highest heels give a table dance to the cutest guy in the crowd. The "I dare you" game has endless options!

This is just the tip of the iceberg for the best and naughtiest bachelorette party games. Get your friends together, start to plan, and don't forget to ask: Just how naughty do you really want to get?
